Keeping Fit During the Festive Season with Lauren Simpson

The Australian summer and holiday season is always filled with events, christmas parties, new years parties and family outings that can often leave even the most well-disciplined dieters and fitness enthusiasts finding it difficult to stay on track with their health and fitness goals!

While it may be hard to keep your diet 100% to plan over the festive season, there is no reason why you can’t be 100% with your workouts!

1. Start your day off with a nice long walk.

2. High intensity workouts are a great time efficient and effective way to get your heart rate up and burning extra calories!

3. No gym no worries! There is always time and opportunity to squeeze in some exercise! Remember, any exercise is better than doing none at all. If you cannot make the gym then plan a quick circuit you can do with minimal equipment, even from the comfort of your own home. Here is a body weight workout you can perform with absolutely no equipment:

Perform each exercise for 1 minute back to back, rest for 2 minutes after the completion of one circuit. Repeat Circuit 1 four times, and then Circuit 2 four times.

Circuit 1:

Squats
Push ups
V sit-ups
Burpees
Mountain Climbers

Circuit 2:

Alternating reverse lunges
Tricep push ups
Ice skaters
Bicycle crunches
Squat jumps

Remember to keep balance and everything in moderation. Summer is one of the best times of the year and you should enjoy it! Make healthy food choices when possible, have treats in moderation and make sure you keep ACTIVE!!! Put all that extra food to good use! (aka GAINS!)
